Cyanobenzothiazole (CBT) (5' modification)
The 5´-modification cyanobenzothiazole (CBT) reacts with aminothiols (e.g. cysteine ) and can be used for covalent coupling of different biomolecules.
Cyanobenzothiazole reacts exclusively with N-terminal cysteines in the protein. Due to the lack of terminal cysteine in natural proteins, "engineered" proteins can be labelled very efficiently and specifically.
Furthermore, the reaction of cyanobenzothiazole and cysteine can be used in the following applications:
- Coupling to proteins
- Assembly of nanostructures
- Immobilisation of biomolecules
